Our learning journey
Stiperstones 2020 see below!
This week we are working on place value. We are exploring the 100 square, making two digit numbers, partitioning two digit numbers and comparing two digit numbers.
In maths we have finished our work on fractions and have just completed our post assessment. We have just completed our place value pre assessment. We are looking at counting in tens and ones.
We are looking at fractions. We are finding a half and a quarter of a shape, an object and an amount.
This week we are finishing our writing cycle by writing our own Non-Chronological report all about Grace Darling. We will edit and assess it before writing it in our remarkable write books.
This week we are writing an introduction to our non- chronological report, sorting facts and planning our own non-chronological report.
In English we have just started our new writing cycle. We are writing non-chronological reports. We are starting with a cold write (all about me) and will end with our hot write (about Grace Darling). We have been looking at the features of a non-chronological report. We had to help Mrs Hopwood. She mixed up the headings and the sub-headings!
Over the last two weeks we have been exploring our senses. We wanted to answer the question 'Is our sense of smell better when we can not see?'
We had great fun investigating this!
In Science this week we are looking at wants and needs of animals, including humans. This led to a very interesting discussion... do we want or need clothes??
Previously, we looked the life cycle of animals. Mrs Hopwood got very confused and mixed up the lifecycles of three different animals! Luckily the children were able to help her sort it out!
Today we found a bag outside the classroom. It was full of interesting rocks, a paint brush, a magnifying glass and other interesting tools. We have been reading a book about Mary Anning. The children thought it might have belonged to her!!!
One one of the photos we looked at last week there was a name. The name was Queen Victoria. We are going to find out who Queen Victoria was!
This week we found some photographs of children on the beach. We discovered the photograph was taken over 100 years ago!! We looked at the similarities and differences between two photos.
We found a picture of a mysterious lady in a boat. We wanted to find out more about her so we wrote some questions. We found a book with her picture on the front! It was an information book about Grace Darling. We used this to help us answer our questions. We want to go and visit where she lived! We looked on Google maps... unfortunately, it is 5 hours away!
