Theme - History and Geography
As our topic is called 'Seaside Rescue', in our Geography lessons we have been exploring key features of a coastal area. Last week we received a strange postcard from Fred, a seagull who lives in Borth, a coastal town in Wales. We identified the key features of a coastal town through this postcard and other primary sources of information.
This week we compared a coastal area with a town, more specifically, our town Shrewsbury.
Here we are writing a postcard back to Fred the seagull explaining what life is like living in a town. We ensured we included the key features of a town and how this was different to life along the coast.

Science
In Science this week we held some in-depth discussions around food chains. We were all fascinated with how food chains work. Some of us were concerned when we started talking about extinction following the collapse of a part of the food chain due to overfishing and pollution. This was something we explored last term during our topic ‘Australian Adventure’ and our research about The Great Barrier Reef.
During this lesson we used our problem solving skills to piece together a food chain which included different types of plankton, sea creatures and birds.
Here is Melinda and Violet explaining how they put the food chain back together again.

Science
This week in Science we discussed the structure of humans and animals. We briefly looked at the skeleton of a human and seagull so we understood there were bones inside out body that are all linked. We then looked closer at the structure of a seagull and explained the purpose of some of their features. This lead us to an investigative question “do amphibians have more in common with reptiles or fish?” We spent some time exploring primary sources of information and grouping animals into categories to complete out research.

Laughing Yoga
Today we took part in Laughing Yoga as part of Mental Health Awareness week.
Laughing Yoga is a technique which focuses on feeling happier, healthier and calmer.
We loved trying the different exercises! At the end of the session we talked about how we felt before, during and after Laughing Yoga. We all decided it made us feel happier inside. It was a great way to end the day.

Theme
Today just before our theme lesson, Mrs Al-Sadek found a strange bag just outside our classroom. We opened it up to investigate it and found some strange objects in side. See below.
When we were looking through the bag, Zack said "STOP, I think it's Grace Darling's bag i remember from the book we read!" We then decided to complete some research using primary sources together facts all about Grace Darling.
Here we are researching:

Art
Over the last few weeks, following our topic of seaside rescue, we have been exploring the work on John Constable through his seascape painting 'Brighton Beach'.
This week our objective was to choose the correct size brush to add detail to paintings. Therefore, we had a go at drawing some boats.
Here are our masterpieces:

Over the last few weeks we have been learning all about non-chronological reports. We have explored lots of features of the reports in order to write our own by the end of our writing cycle. Today we completed our hot write, a non-chronological report all about Grace Darling. Miss Fox was so proud of us all for including lots of the features we've learnt and key fact about Grace Darling. Here are some examples of our amazing work.

In English today we had lots of fun exploring editing stations. We visited the punctuation party, the station of spellings and thesaurus station.
At each new area we edited a different section of our hot write.
Here we are completing some editing:
After we edited our hot writes we wrote our remarkable writes. Miss Fox was so proud of all our hard work!
Here are some fantastic examples:

Maths
Today we consolidated our understanding of telling the time by playing a time related game. In our Kagan pairs we had to describe a time to our partner and they had to make it on the clock. They then had to tell us the time correctly.
Here are some photos:

Science
Today's lesson was all about floating and sinking. We have spent some time learning about materials and their properties so we put our knowledge to the test. We predicted whether a paper boat would float. We then put this to the test by making a paper boat and timing how long it would float for. We completed an observation over time.

Sports Day 2021!
Sports day was very different this year. We completed our races in our class bubbles. We had just as much fun though, especially cheering our team mates on! We recorded the results of who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd so we could award the points to the correct coloured team.

Design and Technology
After looking at recipes and different types of ice lollies, in D&T this week we followed a recipe to make an ice lolly. We ensured we used skills we had previously learnt (cutting and measuring ingredients accurately). We have put the ice lollies in the freezer ready for our next lesson when we can taste test them!
At the end of the lesson we tasted some shop bought ice lollies to see what flavours we could identify! We held a discussion about how we thought these ice lollies were made based on how we made our ice lollies earlier.
